Ferries

Lamma is connected to the rest of Hong Kong by ferry. Because it is the only way on and off the island it is crucial that the ferry service be efficient and available to all.

The ferry routes periodically come up for tender. Normally when this happens the ferry companies complain that they do not have enough revenue to continue to operate. They demand subsidies from the government, ask to put up prices and reduce the level of service.

For the islanders this is extremely worrying. A reduced level of service makes it difficult for people to go to work and for children to go to school. For many people on the island the ferry is a significant and unavoidable cost and increases in fares can have a big impact on them.

Living Lamma supports all sides in determining a fair and equitable way of ensuring that the levels of service are maintained without unduly impacting the residents of the island.

Documentation on ferry routes can be found below.
