Also to be considered is the heritage value. This is the only traditional style house on Yung Shue Wan Main Street. Local people say it is around 50-60 years old. Indeed, there are very few of these types of houses left on north Lamma. It is likely one of the first houses built in Yung Shue Wan and has a colourful history. In recent times, it has operated as a bar and a meeting place for the community. While we understand that this building in privately owned, we feel that investigation into possible heritage status should be made before permission is granted.
Not to be forgotten is the terrible record that building and development have on Lamma. A great deal of construction waste would be generated were the project to go ahead and is likely to be dumped on agricultural land. This has happened many times before. Poor building practices on a busy section of Lamma's main thoroughfare would be an eyesore, a disruption of business and a potential safety hazard. Deadline The deadline for comments or objections is Tuesday 5 July.
